New Poll Shows McCaskill with Slight Lead over Hawley in Missouri Senate Race

A new poll shows U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill with a slight lead over her likely Republican opponent, Josh Hawley. The poll, conducted by TJP Strategies on behalf of Missouri Scout, has Hawley at 44% and McCaskill at 48%.

Other recent polls, including an internal poll released by Hawley’s campaign, have showed the race in a virtual tie. President Trump carried Missouri by 19 points in 2016.

This new poll comes as Republicans are openly complaining about Hawley’s inability to work hard or raise the requisite amount of funds expected of a top-tier Senate candidate. A Republican strategist last month called Hawley’s fundraising to date “a five alarm fire.”

Republicans’ problems will likely intensify this week as embattled Governor Eric Greitens goes on trial for a felony invasion of privacy charge. The Missouri Scout poll shows Greitens’ approval at 34% with a disapproval of 53%. Among Republicans, Greitens has maintained a 55% approval rating with only 28% disapproving.
